Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a hybrid breed of dog developed by crossing a Pomeranian with a Siberian Husky. This breed was created to get the best of both worlds – the intelligence and loyalty of a Husky combined with the size and cuddliness of a Pomeranian. Pomskies typically have a wolf-like appearance but are much smaller in size, sometimes barely reaching 20 pounds fully grown. As with most hybrid breeds, the exact appearance of a Pomsky can vary greatly, but they usually have pointy ears, big eyes and lush coats.
Pomskies are considered to be a low-shedding breed, though they will typically still shed seasonally. They are unique in that they have some of the same qualities as a Siberian Husky but with a smaller, more compact size. Their coats are typically of a medium-to-long length, requiring regular brushing and combing to keep them looking their best and prevent tangles and mats.
Pomskies are a hybrid breed that usually have Siberian Husky and Pomeranian parents. As such, their dietary needs are similar to both breeds and can vary from dog to dog. In general, it's best to find an appropriately sized high quality dog food that is specifically formulated for active and growing dogs, with at least 18% protein and 8% fat. When determining how much food to feed your Pomsky, aim to give them the amount of food recommended by the dog food manufacturer.
Becoming the best puppy parent while you wait for your Pomsky requires knowledge, commitment, and dedication. Start researching the breed and learn about their needs. Prepare for your pup to come home by puppy-proofing your home, such as child-proofing outlets, purchasing items you may need, and preparing a safe play area with toys and beds. When your pup does arrive, connect with an experienced dog trainer. Keep up with socialization and potty-training as well as abide by guidelines that fit with the breed.
Pomskies are a mix between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky so their size depends on the ratio of their ancestors. Generally, the size of an adult Pomsky can range from 12 to 17 inches in height, and about 15 to 30 pounds in weight, with the rare exception of bigger size combinations. It's important to note that with hybrid breeds like the Pomsky, no two dogs will look and act exactly the same. Therefore, certain puppies within the same litter may grow larger or smaller than the average size mention to start with.
It is recommended that your Pomsky get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. This doesn't have to happen all at once as you can break it up into multiple walks. Ideally, the walks should be around 15 minutes each, and one should be done when you wake up and one just before bedtime. This will provide the necessary amount of physical activity for your pup and also help them to get accustomed to their routine and to understand that their needs for exercise must be met.
Pomskies can absolutely be good family dogs! Generally, they are loyal, good-natured, and affectionate, making them well-suited for a family dynamic. Their sizes are also fairly medium-sized, so they don't require a large amount of space or need too much physical activity for you to enjoy their company. At the same time, because of their high energy levels, it's important to ensure that you give your Pomsky enough mental stimulation. With proper training and socialization, you will be able to have a cheerful and agreeable pet.
Pomskies are incredibly intelligent. They have a reputation for being one of the most trainable dog breeds easily mastering commands, even when given with limited practice. With their smarts, Pomskies can even learn advanced tricks, making them perfect for agility competitions. They also have a strong instinct for problem solving, allowing them to figure out how to open childproof locks or find their way back home. And they have a wonderful communication style with humans they listen attentively and respond to their handlers' cues.
