Questions & Answers
A Poodle is a loyal, intelligent and social dog breed originating from Germany. It is considered to be one of the oldest breeds of dogs and is the national dog of France. Poodles are available in three popular sizes Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Although traditionally a hunting breed, Poodles have now become popular as companion animals and therapy dogs due to their loving personalities. They are also known for their unique curly, wiry coats which can be seen in many shapes and sizes.
Poodles are considered to be one of the most hypoallergenic of all dog breeds, making them an ideal choice for those with allergies. It's important to note, however, that there is no such thing as a 100% hypoallergenic dog, as all breeds can cause allergic reactions in some people. The truth is that the amount of allergens a particular breed produces varies from pet to pet and it also depends on the grooming habits of the owner.
Poodles are a breed of very intelligent, happy and active dogs that typically require high-quality food for a healthy and long life. Generally, Poodles need a balanced diet of fresh meat, fruits, grains and vegetables. As Poodles are low maintenance dogs, they don't need a lot of fancy and/or expensive foods, but a diet high in proteins and nutrients is still recommended. Commercially prepared foods, such as kibble, are also acceptable choices.
Becoming the best puppy parent while waiting for your Poodle requires careful planning and thoughtful preparation. Before you bring your pup home, create an environment that is safe and secure for them. Stock up on all the necessary supplies such as a leash, puppy bed, toys, food, and treats. Establish a routine for your pup with regular walking times and meal times and stick to it. Visit your veterinarian for vaccinations and check-ups, and join a puppy class for socialisation and training.
Poodles come in a variety of sizes, which makes it difficult to determine the maximum size they can grow to. Generally speaking, Standard Poodles tend to be the largest breed, reaching somewhere between 45 and 70 pounds, with males typically reaching the higher end. Miniature Poodles usually range from 15 to 20 pounds and Toy Poodles between 4 and 6 pounds. No matter the size, however, Poodles share the same average life expectancy of about 15 years.
Poodles need at least one hour of exercise per day, split into several shorter sessions throughout the day. Daily activities like walks, playtime, and swimming are recommended and should be tailored to your Poodle's age, size, and individual needs. Low-impact exercises such as cushion-momentum activities—like slow circles or figure 8s or treadmill walking—are recommended for senior or recovered Poodles. Regardless of the activity, Poodles should always stay under supervision, as they may be tempted to chase after small critters and can easily become overheated.
Poodles are great family dogs! They have a loyal, loving, and gentle temperament, making them excellent companions and faithful friends. Since they're highly intelligent, they're known as excellent problem solvers and are incredibly obedient, making them easy to train. Poodles are also watchful and alert, making them great at providing security for a household without being overly aggressive. They're also known for their hypoallergenic, low-shedding coats, making them great for households with people who suffer from allergies.
Absolutely! Poodles are an incredibly intelligent breed of dog often praised for their high level of trainability. Studies have even found Poodles to be ranked amongst the top 10 smartest breeds. Poodles are incredibly eager to please their owners, often exhibiting comprehension and problem-solving skills. For example, they are capable of learning several commands within a few weeks and can respond to those commands using both verbal cues and physical commands. Plus, because of their strong memory, they are likely to remember their commands even after a long period of time.
