Bernedoodles are a hybrid of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle and are known to have the sweet, gentle and devoted nature of the Bernese Mountain Dog coupled with the intelligence and hypoallergenic qualities of the poodle. This breed of dog grew in popularity in the early 2000s and is known to be just as loyal, lively and trainable as the other parent breeds. Additionally, the Bernedoodle exhibits minimal-to-no shedding, making them a great option for allergy sufferers.
The Bernedoodle coat is varied depending upon the type F1, F1b, F2, F2b and the characteristics of it's parents. Generally, Bernedoodles have either a short but fuzzy coat, or a longer and slightly more wavy coat that ranges from straight to one that resembles wavy or curly curls. It is generally soft and low shedding, plus it comes in a myriad of colors, which can include black, white, brown, grey, or a mix of those colors.
Bernedoodles do not have any special dietary needs that are unique to their breed. However, it is important to provide a balanced nutritious diet that meets the nutritional requirements of their large breed size. Since Bernedoodles are a crossbreed of a Bernese mountain dog and a poodle, their caloric intake should be adjusted to their activity level, age and body weight. If you choose to feed your Bernedoodle a homemade diet, it's important to ensure that it is nutritionally balanced.
