Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are truly unique and fun dogs! They are a cross between Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles and are a popular new designer breed. Bernedoodles are incredibly intelligent and loyal, easily picking up commands and tricks. In addition, their hypoallergenic coat makes them low-shedding choice for those with allergies. Most Bernedoodles can live up to 10 15 years, making them a long-term companion. They are also excellent hiking and running partners, as they were bred to have plenty of energy and stamina.
Bernedoodles, a hybrid of Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, can vary widely in terms of coat, which can affect their hypoallergenic properties. Generally speaking, Poodle-mixes are known to be low-shedding and generally easier for those with pet allergies to tolerate. However, the exact same can't be said for all Bernedoodles. Some of these dogs may have a hypoallergenic coat, while others may not.
Because the Bernedoodle is a hybrid breed, they possess the dietary needs of both their parent breeds, the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. As such, it is best to speak to your vet to get exact advice on the type and amount of food you should be feeding your Bernedoodle; however, as a general rule, adult Bernedoodles should enjoy a high-quality diet with ingredients like chicken, salmon, vegetables, and grains. Feeding your Bernedoodle twice a day is also recommended so your pup has steady energy and maintains a healthy weight.
Preparing for a new Bernedoodle can be a very exciting but also daunting task. Before bringing your Bernedoodle home, you should make sure your home is ready. Puppies will require a lot of attention and potty training, so make sure you have space to safely let them roam or have them puppy-proofed if they'll be in a confined area. Additionally, it is important to do research on breed-specific characteristics like coat types, size and exercise requirements.
Bernedoodles are generally considered to be a medium-sized breed, with adult sizes of around 18-30 inches tall and 45-75 lbs. However, the size of your Bernedoodle puppy largely depends on the size of the parent breeds, as Bernedoodles are typically a cross between Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles. Bernese Mountain Dogs come in Standard, Giant, and Miniature sizes, while Poodles may be Toy, Miniature, or Standard sizes.
It depends on several factors such as the age, health, and fitness level of your Bernedoodle. On average, it is recommended to walk your Bernedoodle for at least 30 minutes per day, but closer to 45-60 minutes is ideal. If your Bernedoodle is younger or less active, then 30 minutes will be sufficient. However, if your Bernedoodle is older and more active, then it is suggested to take them out for up to an hour so they can receive an adequate level of exercise.
Bernedoodles typically make excellent family pets, and they are great with kids! They are affectionate, loyal, and social, enjoying the company of people of all ages, particularly kids. Bernedoodles thrive on attention, becoming very attached to their owners and family. Bernedoodles have a relatively gentle temperament, and their even-keeled nature makes them great companions for children. They are also very intelligent and obedient, making them easy to train.
Training your Bernedoodle correctly is key to having a healthy relationship with your pup. Fortunately, with the right amount of patience, consistency and positive reinforcement, it can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Begin by establishing a routine and define your rules, such as no jumping on furniture or begging for food, right away. Make sure everyone living in the house is on the same page and follows the same rules. Introduce and practice the basics come, sit, stay, down in increasingly difficult situations to help reinforce the lessons.
