Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a designer breed on the rise in popularity! They were initially bred in Alaska in 2009 by crossing a Pomeranian and an Alaskan Husky, so they definitely have a lot of energy and a surprising amount of stamina. Fun facts about Pomskies include that they are very independent dogs, usually AKC certified, highly intelligent and people-oriented animals, and require very little grooming. They often form very strong bonds with their owners and make ideal house pets, especially for active households.
Pomskies are described as being a lowto non-shedding breed. Regularly brushing their coats is important to help prevent shedding and their undercoat should be washed and dried once a month to keep their coat clean and healthy. While the Pomsky doesn't have a dense undercoat like some other breeds, it does have a long and fine outer coat which helps to keep warm during cold climates. A healthy diet full of proteins and fatty acids will help to keep the coat thick, looking awesome and promote healthy skin.
Pomskies have very specific dietary requirements due to their small size. They need high-quality, nutritionally balanced, and easily digestible food. Dry commercial foods offer an easy-to-find and convenient option, but you should look for one specifically designed for toyor small-breed dogs. Include enough of proteins, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals for your pup's age and activity level. Wet food also provides good nutrition, but be sure that your Pomksy can easily chew it.
Preparing for a new Pomsky addition to your family is an exciting process! First, make sure to get the necessary supplies for your pup, such as a collar and leash, food and water dishes, crate or bedding, toys, treats, and food. It's also important to make sure you have enough time in your daily routine to walk and play with your Pomsky. Additionally, it's a good idea to look into local Pomsky breeders and rescue groups that might have tips or advice to accompany your new pup.
The size of your Pomsky puppy will depend on a number of factors, including the genetics of the parents, their diet and exercise regimen, and other environmental components. Generally, a full-grown Pomsky will reach a height of 18 to 25 inches and weigh between 15 and 40 pounds. Your puppy's size can vary from smaller to larger than the typical range, as this breed is not particularly standardized or predictable. Getting to know the pup's parents and understanding the puppy's history can help you to get a better idea of their potential size.
Pomskies are a hybrid of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, and all dogs should get daily exercise for their mental and physical well-being. How much exercise a Pomsky needs depends on their age and energy level. Generally, young puppies need less active playtime, perhaps with a few walks of 3-5 minutes per day. Adults, on the other hand, typically require at least an hour of exercise every day either a few 10-15 minute walks, or an active game of fetch or Frisbee.
Pomskies are incredibly great with kids! They are highly decent and mild tempered, with a friendly personality that is great around younger ones. Pomskies can also be easily trained to follow basic commands. Since they are also small dogs, they don't take up a lot of room and can be relatively low-maintenance when it comes to exercise, making them an excellent choice for families with children. Pomskies have an instinctive loyalty and protective nature, making them a great companion for kids who want to take their pet on walks or in the yard.
Pomskies are definitely a bright breed. They can be trained to understand a variety of commands and show an admirable problem-solving ability. Being a wise mix of a Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, they understand their surroundings and cling to familiar people and animals. With a loyal heart and sharp mind, a Pomsky is often eager to please and can often be seen shredding a toy or interacting with others to keep entertained. In general, they're skilled learners with lots of intelligence that can be unlocked.
